Particleboard or Chipboard is term for a panel manufactured from lignocellulosic materials (usually wood), primarly in the form of discrete pieces or particles, combined with a synthetic resin or other suitable binder and bonded together under heat and pressure in a hot press (Maloney, Thomas on Modern Particleboard & Dry Process Manufacturing Fibreboard. 1989).

Japanese Industrial Standard classified particleboard, according to adhesive, into:

  • Type U (U), use urea resin type or at least equivalent in performance.
  • Type M (M), use urea melamine resin or at least equivalent in performance.
  • Type P (P), use phenolic resin type or at least equivalent in performance.
