Lignin Formaldehyde Resin
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Lignin Formaldehyde Resin, commonly known as Lignin-Phenolic-Formaldehyde (LPF) Resin, represents an eco-friendly alternative to conventional Phenol-Formaldehyde (PF) Resin. By utilizing lignin, natural polymer found in the cell wall of plants, these resins substitute part of phenol, thereby diminishing the dependence on petrochemical resources and enhancing sustainability.
Lignin-Phenolic-Formaldehyde (LPF) Resin is a developed sustainable adhesive to be applied in plywood manufacturing. It utilizes the lignin, a natural polymer inherent in wood, to partially replace phenol in conventional Phenol-Formaldehyde (PF) Resin, thereby improving the environmental profile of the adhesive.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATION
The specification of Lignin Formaldehyde Resin products can vary depending on their composition and its purpose of use. Some general specifications can be seen in the following table:
Parameter Test | Specification | Method |
Appearance | Dark Red Liquid | Visual |
Solid Content | 25 – 35 % | Oven |
Viscosity (30°C) | 100 – 300 cPs | Viscometer |
pH (30°C) | 9 – 13 | pH meter |
Specific gravity (30°C) | 1,100 – 1,200 | Hydrometer |
PRECAUTIONS
Lignin Formaldehyde Resin may cause skin irritation and respiratory issues. It has slightly formaldehyde odor when applied. During handling, it is essential to wear appropriate protective clothing, including rubber gloves, eye protection or face shields. Proper safety measures should always be followed to minimize exposure. For detailed safety information, please refer to the product’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
STORAGE
Lignin Formaldehyde Resin should be stored in a dry place, air-conditioned room at approximately 16°C to prevent degradation. Extreme temperatures can impact the resin’s stability and performance. When stored at 16°C, the resins is expected to have a shelf life of 18 days. However, if stored at Room Temperature (25-30°C), the shelf life is reduced to 7 days. Ensure that storage areas are well-ventilated to avoid fume buildup and maintain a safe environment.
APPLICATION
Lignin Formaldehyde Resin produced by PT Dover Chemical is specifically formulated for plywood manufacturing. It meets the JAS 2018 standards for Type 2/ Type 1/ Type Special bonding strength.
